Without Server (world) identity, what are we fighting for?
in World vs. World

You're putting too much stock into guilds and too much trust into alliances that aren't even a thing yet.
Well, I'm not saying guilds will suddenly fill the gap of team identity and spirit, but I also don't assume they'll be worse than what servers have become.
I've been on Sanctum of Rall since launch day. I had a big break from the game, so I don't know what its history has been over the last nine years. When I joined, though, I saw it as a server with a friendly, community kind of vibe. In a wonderful show of heart on the part of ArenaNet, they named it because a guild had one of its members who was looking forward to GW2 pass away before launch. I always felt that kind of heart was reflected in many who chose the server as home.
It wasn't super competitive. As far as I know it's always been middling in its WvW standing. I'm a little sad to lose the chance to fight for a server that I've always had a fondness for. But I know a lot of that is pretty vague, amorphous perception. I have no idea how many people who are still on SoR even know where it got it's name, or that at launch it had a qualityof being one of the "maybe not so competitive, but a lot of heart" servers.
And I know people will create meaning. It's built into who we are as humans. Maybe guilds won't become rallying banners. Maybe alliances won't engender loyalty and pride. But maybe they will. And as Skynet pointed out, I don't see server pride as being all that strong right now that we should be wringing our hands over what the loss of server identity will mean.

To me a Thief + Warhorn be quite weird. You got a thief trying to be stealthy but carrying around a warhorn to blow?
Maybe if they changed it to be like a blowdart or something like that...

yeah cause rifles and pistols aren't loud at all.
This got me thinking, the idea with the rifle or pistol is that the thief is hidden up until the point where they shoot something.
So who would be hidden up until the point they blow a warhorn? A scout. Someone who secretly goes into enemy territory, then calls the troops at the right time and has them come flooding in.
It's possible to think through any weapon for any proession, really. It's all in the story you tell to get there.

What is your favourite Festival?
in Festivals

There was no "none of the above" or "don't really care for festivals" so I didn't vote.
I usually dip my toe into them, look at what's available, then go back to the rest of the game. While I really appreciate the creativity and work that went into SAB, it's not my kind of thing, and so totally different from the rest of the game. The rest of the festivals feel kinda high-pressure grind for limited time currency mostly for rewards I'm not all that excited about.
I have enjoyed the the clocktower and the windersday jumping puzzles in the past.
I thought it might be nice to get the witch's hat and dye it appropriately to be more of a wizardly had on an Asura elementalist, but 30 cobs!?! I have a corn node in my home instance, and regularly mine it, and have maybe one cob and change in storage.
That's pretty representative of my relationship to the festivals. All the rewards I could casually get are meh, all the ones I might be interested in would require hardcore grinding of the festival for the limited window it's available.
Depending on how this level ten to get a weapon thing works this year, I might do that, but I expect that will be all I do for Mad King.

Time Gated Ascension Armor Crafting, Why?
in Guild Wars 2 Discussion
Posted September 29, 2021
Some people have absurd amounts of time to play, yet they want to stay engaged to an MMO for years. There is no content creation team that can keep up with that. Time gating draws out the time it takes to get all the stuff and say, 'Okay, I'm out until the next expansion.' It keeps them coming around.
This is the problem at the root of every MMORPG.

I did discover last night that DX11 seems to make GW2TacO not work.
The TacO is telling me I need to update it, so maybe this is not true of the current version.
And I'm aware ANet doesn't have a responsibility to make sure a third party overlay works. It does seem to be one of the most used add-ons in the game, though, so if it is an issue in the most recent version, hopefully that can be fixed.
______
Also, I really want an ability to create graphics settings load outs I can toggle between, now. Even with DX11, I need to turn all my settings down for WvW, which is as simple as clicking "best performance". Now, however, with DX11 I'm able to turn up more of my settings to in other parts of the game, but not across the board to the highest "best appearance" settings. That means a PitA tinkering through settings each time I do PvE if I want to get the most I can out of DX11.

Ho hum, this is turning into a warclaw thread isn't it? Nerfed that so god dammed hard you might as well just run in wvw. Total waste. almostUseless mount.
As someone who just joined WvW a few weeks ago and went through getting the Warclaw, it's not at all useless. Yes, it feels glacially slow compared to the rest of the mounts in the game (I wonder if it wouldtie with Skimmer on land), but it is definitely faster than running.
If you are fortunate to find a group sharing speed boosts (through Warclaw or other), you can keep up on foot. Otherwise, there's no way.

I can’t get to the post event champions sometimes even riding the skyscale before they are dead, them champions need more health because no one knows how to take it easy and let people arrive before they blow them up 🥴
maybe it’s not such a problem when it’s not the return to event as I haven’t played the meta there very many times but last night by the time I could see the chest to loot them through all the people and got in route to the champion it was already dead I’d have to skip looting the chest to make it to the next one…..
That is an excellent point. You need to be right on whoever is leading the charge, and keep laser focused, even with Skyscale. It would make sense to boost the post-meta Champs HP some.

Overlapping Bonus Events?
in World vs. World
Posted September 29, 2021
According to the Fall and Winter 2021 blog post, there is a WvW bonus event from October 1st to 8th. Presumably this is Call of War, for +100% WXP, +25% Reward Track.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-live-fall-and-winter-2021/
According to the new post about Shadow of the Mad King, there is a Halloween Bonus Bash to kick it off, from Oct 5th to 12th, including +50% XP from all sources, and +30% WvW Reward Track progress.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/shadow-of-the-mad-king-arrives-october-5/
These events overlap from the 5th to the 8th. Is this a mistake? If so, which bonus will we actually get?
If it's not a mistake, do these bonuses stack? Will we see +150% WXP and +55% Reward Track progress?

If you're not currently sure what would be useful for you I think it would be better to wait and see than buy something and end up feeling like you've wasted your money.
Good advice.
I'm surprised you aren't inundated by blues and greens, though. I don't farmeither, but my inventory is constantly swamped doing WvW, return to LW events, bounties, any metas. I kinda run all over the game other than SPVP and Raids/Fractals.
OP, since you're planning on playing a character from each profession, it might also help you to know that zones you'll get into during the living world chapters have portal scrolls you can buy with in game currency. That means you don't have to do the story again on each character just to get access to the zones. That's another use for the shared inventory slot.

If you end up doing node runs for LW3 currency like Winterberries, GW2TacO is an overlay that is super helpful. It'll give you an in game trail to follow and hit all the nodes in a zone.
In addition to Bitterfrost Winterberries and Dragonfall Motes, you can get a good amount of Difluorite crystals on an easy path if you have your skimmer. Quite a few of the nodes are in the water or on the shore, so you don't have to deal with many mobs. Just make sure to keep moving. Don't stop over the water... because sharks.

How much more would you think I would need?
I can always buy more gems if it's going to be that helpful you know what I mean.
I'm all new to the end game aspects but I've been doing PoF quests and unlocking mounts etc. Just been cruising with my 1 80. So if something is super useful I'd be ok with spending some money to make it happen if it works for the long run.
None of it's strictly necessary, but there are plenty of quality of life gem store items that remove little irritations.
Material storage is 800 for each additional 250 you add. It's helpful if you'll be crafting or chasing legendaries. It might be worth waiting until you feel like you're running out of material storage before investing.
Another thing I keep thinking about getting are the unlimited harvesting tools, because it's annoying to constantly have to make sure I've got harvseting tools on hand. But in order for that to really work, as someone who plays many characters, I'd want three more shared inventory slots so all the characters could use them. That would be a big gem cost. I could buy harvesting tools for years and never break even on that cost. But... it might be worth it at some point.
The copper-fed salvage o matic and the shared inventory slot were definitely worth it to me. I got another shared slot when I bought PoF, so I've got the salvage o matic in one, and usually a lounge pass in the other. That way all characters can salvage the blues and greens, and they all have access to a home base from anywhere in the game.
Oh yeah, I guess that would be a thing, too. A lounge pass. I got mine as part of getting PoF. I know there's a lot of opinions out there about the best one, and I only know two of them, so I can't really weigh in on that. It is super useful to have that home base with crafting/trading post/bank all conveniently located a click away. It's probably the number one thing my kids, who don't have a lounge pass, express jealousy over in game.
Again, none of these things are necessary. But some are super helpful. I definitely don't want to talk you into buying a bunch of gem store stuff. I rarely do.

700 gems, shared inventory slot is super helpful if you are consistently playing multiple characters.
800 gems,Copper fed salvage o magic. You are going to be swamped with blue and green gear in endgame. You’ll want to salvage it for mats, but even more for luck essences to increase your magic find. Having to constantly buy salvage kits for the hundreds of blues and greens you’ll be regularly salvaging is a big PitA. Buy one, stick it in your shared inventory slot, and get rid of that headache.
Beyond those, you’ll want to expand your mat storage if you’re going to craft at all. 250 is absurdly small compared to many endgame recipes. But that’s beyond your current 1600 budget.

if they give Eotm old mechanics with karma + the new pips back and the option to gain regular XP, it would, maybe solve some of the issues
within the main Wvw mode, we don't need pvE more than we have it yet. it is brutally sad and problematic enough to have maps that have 20-40 people doing pve things like constant tower/campflipping as main interest. (the 4-8 roamers numerically dont matter).
the map blocking ktrains are surely sorta uncomfy. hell, people do enter a mass-Pvp mode here and then the 50ish blob RUNS AND PORTS when they see your 18 ppl coming, okay thanks for nothing.
we dont need people in Wvw who don't wanna fight at all. give them GoB (giftofbattle) access on eotm so they can do their pvE thingy farm stuff there.
It’s hard for me to believe that WvW is overrun with people getting GoBs. Reward tracks are completed so fast, they’d be in and gone.
Players who don’t want to raid and are grinding out skirmish tickets might be another story…

Mount skins are too expensive
in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

1 hour ago, DarcShriek.5829 said:
No it's not. You've made your choices. You don't have $25 for a skin, because you don't want to spend $25 on a skin. That doesn't mean Anet is charging too much for them. BTW, bringing in the wealth of everyone on the globe into argument is silly. If they don't play GW2, whatever they earn doesn't matter to Anet. Anet only needs to be concerned about the value of it's customers. They don't have to be concerned about people that have no way to play this game.
Yikes on the reading comprehension.
Nowhere am I saying the mounts are too expensive. I said I can’t afford them on my family’s budget, but that I’m glad that the price they are is keeping the game going subscription free.
But declaring $25 withinreach for anyone with a job is meaningless as to whether it’s affordable for a mount skin. Anyone with a job in a developed country should be able to get $500 together, too. Does that make it a reasonable price for a mount skin?
For some that’s going to their mortgage. For others that’s a throwaway portion of their income in a month. It’s all relative. It has to have context.
